THE ETHIOPIAN TENACITY
Sunday, January 19, 2014 - 07:00pm
The film depicts the wanton invasion by Fascist Italy, led by Dictator Mussolini, of the Ethiopian Somali city “Wolwol“ in 1935. The Italians escalated the battle and were able to enter Addis Ababa on May 5, 1936, and occupied it until 1941. During the five year occupation of Ethiopia, Mussolini’s soldiers looted many artifacts and historical monuments from Ethiopia, one of which was the Aksum Obelisk.
The documentary shows the whole episode of the occupation, liberation, the return and re-erection of the obelisk in Axum -- an engineering feat of its own. Looking at it from various perspectives the documentary highlights the history of the struggle.
